NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 is a set of regulations that covers products having contact with drinking water in the USA. These include pipes, hoses, fittings, gaskets, water meters, valves, adhesives, coatings, lubricants and many more. In case any of them comes in contact with potable water, meeting the standard of NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 will verify that such water consumption is safe according to the North American legal requirements.
NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 is the only American National Standard, addressing human health effects on drinking water system components. It was developed by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), a global independent public health and environmental organization, along with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which oversees the consensus for developing standards for manufacturing and procedures in the US. In the majority of the US states, virtually any product in any commercial kitchen is NSF-certified.
